What breaks the camel’s back and leaves no doubt about the dangers faced by the Vietnamese is the “proposal” of changes in the way the Vietnamese language is to be written, an old man by the name of Bui Hiển who is obviously either of Chinese origin or a bought Vietnamese who allegedly spent over “twenty years” (sic!) to come with a new script which has nothing to do with how the Vietnamese language is pronounced but is based on the way the Chinese pronounce the Mandarin dialect, the official “language” of the Chinese. The new script is a far cry from the standard “Chữ Quốc Ngữ” script that has been around for over 300 years and widely accepted and used over 100 years. On the other hand, the proposed changes, if adopted by the youth people, will eventually make them unable to understand books written by previous generations.
The sole reason I am writing this article is to awaken the young people of the acute dangers facing the Vietnamese people. And they must do something NOW if they wish to live as free Vietnamese in the future in a country that is still a sovereign state of Vietnam, and not a mere province of China. For that to happen,
they must shed their current hedonistic pursuits and stop crying their hearts out in public over the death of a music icon like Michael Jackson instead of the deaths of their compatriots, the poor fishermen whose boats were rammed by the bigger Chinese patrol vessels in the very waters that belong to Vietnam.
-they must show they are outrageous over the behavior of a stupid traitor like Bùi Hiển in order to send a message to those who harbor a betrayal of Vietnam.
-they must be a bridge between the protesting Catholic clergymen (and their followers) and the indifferent Buddhists who don’t wish to see the Catholics to resume ruling Vietnam as they did in times of yore. The Catholics need to be persuaded that they must act as people with a backbone, independent thinking, and proud of themselves, who refuse to take orders from the Vatican, just like the Japanese and Chinese Catholics who have steadfastly refused to take orders from the Vatican, an empire in the guise of religion and full of corruption and exploitation of gullible, unintelligent folks. The Catholics must learn that they are Vietnamese first and foremost, and they are nobodies special just because they happen to believe in the teachings of an illiterate preacher and whose disciples decided to believe that he was God in the flesh. They are free to believe what they want to believe, but they must learn to realize what they believe is not necessarily true, especially if the beliefs fly in the face of Facts, Reason, Logic, and Common Sense. And the Catholics should not disparage other people who have different beliefs from them.
Religion is always used as a tool throughout human history by invaders to divide the people whom they wish to conquer or by rulers who wish to perpetuate their authority. All Vietnamese must realize that stark fact. The current animus and distrust between the ambitious minority Catholics and the beleaguered majority Buddhists must be dissolved before any meaningful nationwide protest can take root and be successful. The Catholics, in particular, must learn to respect another stark fact in any society, democratic or otherwise, if social order is to prevail: the will of the majority must be respected either through the ballot box or by naked force. On the other hand, the majority must rule responsibly and fairly and have no designs to wipe out the minority.
-For the young people to understand the dynamics of Religion and the essence of Politics and Power, they must devote themselves to Learning and Knowledge, and stay away from frivolous hedonistic pursuits, and have a burning Love for Vietnam and their fellow compatriots. They must know the meaning of Love, Pride and Responsibility, and Courage. They must be in the forefront of Change to Save Vietnam from the Clutches of China. They must take inspiration from the current actions of the Hong Kong Youth. However, they must be realistic. They must show their actions stem from their Love for Vietnam, and they are not the tools of foreign powers or domestic elements wishing to topple the Hanoi regime in order to take over the country just to conquer Vietnam or to seize power in order to enjoy the spoils deriving from having it. There must be elements in the ruling elites in Hanoi that really love Vietnam and listen to the will of the people. So the people, led by the Vietnam Youth, must speak up, take to the streets in massive number, and say we demand Change if Vietnam is to be saved. Most importantly, the protest movement must be based on Love, Not Hate, Not Blind Cry for Justice and Revenge. We are all Vietnamese and must learn to love one another and be united in our fight for a Vietnam free of the current domination and piecemeal invasion from China. When the movement is successful, only those who are traitors and collaborators with the invading Chinese are to be punished. There must be Love and Reconciliation in the manner embraced by Nelson Mandela when he came to power in South Africa.
Long Live Vietnam!
